Tourém appears in an extraordinary landscape setting. In this border village, the essentially granite houses, of great architectural value, and the community heritage, a symbol of the collective spirit of this community, are major ethnographic and ethnological landmarks. Highlights include the Community Oven, the chapel of Santa Ana and the Parish Church of Tourém, the Moinho da Presa, the Medieval Bridge of Tourém and the Ecomuseum of Barroso. This museum portrays the theme of smuggling, political exiles and cross-border relations. It also has a permanent exhibition of the main bird species that occur in the surrounding area, where a great diversity of birds is recorded, including migratory birds.
